Othello

by Dawn Thompson

30 Minutes south of Cleveland, the Ohio Shakespeare Festival in cooperation with the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens will be presenting Othello under the stars.  The show starts at 8 pm and  should end around 10:30 pm.  Doors open at 6pm but if you get there a little early you can take a self guided tour the gardens.  If you are up for it, you can also pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the grounds before the show.

Let me know how you like it if you go!

Make a day of it in Cleveland!

So much is happening today here in Cleveland.  Come on down by Lake Erie and enjoy a nice breeze while enjoying one, two, three, or all of these great events.  Today, you can take in the smells of Little Italy at the Feast of Assumption, a gathering of over 40 food vendors cooking up their best just for you!  You can also enjoy a few glasses of wine from one of the 400 wine vendors that will be at the Feast!  Get more information here: Lake Erie Living

Or if being green is you thing, today is the day to enjoy the Great Lakes Brewing Companies Burning River Fest!  Held at Wendy Park on Whiskey Island this is the perfect chance to enjoy the breeze from the lake, eat some great food, see some fantastic art and learn all that you need to know about living green.  This current hot topic will be discussed in a fun and family friendly way.  Come on down and enjoy, the event goes on from 1pm-9:30 pm!  Hope to see you there!

and remember…Cleveland Rocks!

Close your eyes and LISTEN!

by Dawn Thompson

Now that you’ve had a bit to eat, rested your eyes for a moment or two, it is time to venture outside your digs and put your ear to the city on the lake.

You must visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum!  With thousands of artifacts from your most beloved musicians, it is a museum you do not want to miss!  If you are in town August 8, 15, or 22, do not miss the free concerts in front of the museum from 6pm-9pm.  There is so much going on at the Rock, be sure not to miss it!

If your musical tastes lean more towards the classical, a Cleveland Orchestra concert will not be a disappointment.  For the summer months, the Cleveland Orchestra performs at Blossom Music Center,in nearby Cuyahoga Falls.  Bring  your favorite blanket, food and bottle of wine and enjoy the sweet sounds of the orchestra in the great outdoors.  If sitting in the grass is not your “glass of wine”, there are pavilion seats for a little extra.  I have attended many orchestra concerts at Blossom as well as Severance Hall in University Circle, and have always thoroughly loved each concert.

The sounds of Cleveland are varied and never disappointing, so be sure to check it out in the best city in the country.

Wade Oval Wednesdays!

by Dawn Thompson

If  you don’t have plans for tonight head on over to University Circle where you and your family can enjoy the steel drum band, Panic!  It’s free and there is fun for the whole family.  Listen to the band, grab a bite to eat, visit the beer and wine gardens, or take the kids to the craft tents.  These summer fun events will be going on until August 29th, so take the family and enjoy the end of summer with some great FREE summer events at University Circle!

Sleeping Here!

by Dawn Thompson

Now that you are feeling full, you must be in the mood for a little nap.  But wait, have you forgotten to book a hotel? Well, you’re in luck because downtown Cleveland alone has over 4,000 hotel rooms, ranging from the pricey to the downright cheap!  If you are looking for a night of luxury, make you way over to the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel located at 24 Public Square, just a short walk from Jacob’s Field and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.  If you are able to stay at the Reniassance you will enjoy a private lounge and a continental breakfast.  The Renaissance can be on the pricey side but if you are willing to spend, you will receive what will undoubtedly be the best night’s sleep of your life!

If you are just looking for a place to plop down your bags, brush your teeth, and lay your head without all the fus then the Hilton Garden Inn at 1100 Carnegie is your pick.  For a non smoking room with a king size bed, the going rate is $89.10!  Book online and you may even be able to find a cheaper rate!

And remember, if you lived here you’d be home now ;)

Eating Here!

by Dawn Thompson

You’ve finally arrived!  You must be starving!  There are over 1,000 restaurants in Cleveland!  More if you count the family run, ethnic restaurants that warm our bellies and fill the air with the scents of countries far away.

If Midwest fare is new to you get ready, it’s so tasty you’ll never want to go home.  Have you ever deep fried pickles? Deep fried Oreos? Deep fried Snickers? No, well you are in for a treat and so much more.  If you’d like to stay in the downtown area to eat, you have many options.  If you’d like to go for something tried and true there is always; The Hard Rock Cafe, The House of Blues, and Flannery’s but if you are looking for something a little different I recommend Vivo, their specialties include both pork and beef tenderloins, grilled asparagus, and a variety of deep and full bodied talian wines.

If Italian isn’t what you need, bid Vivo Ciao and take a quick jaunt to John Q’s Steakhouse where they are famous for their 28 oz. Porterhouse.  Lean back and bask in the mood inspiring dark paneling, and white tablecloths as you finish off your dinner with a Scotch and maybe, just maybe a piece of Apple Walnut Pie.

Getting Here!

by Dawn Thompson

So you say you’ve never been to Cleveland?!?!?!?!?!

Why not come to Cleveland? We’re rated one of the top 10 Value Destinations by tripadvisor.com.

So if you’re going to come you will need to know how to get here.  There are tons of ways to get to Cleveland.  Obviously is  you are in driving distance you can drive here, with your windows down, blasting your choice of music, but if you aren’t lucky enough to be within driving distance then you will need a plan.

You can always fly into Burke Lakefront Airport or Cleveland International Airport if flying is your thing.  Cleveland Hopkins caters to most major national and international airlines, so getting here by air won’t be a problem.

If flying is not your thing, then there is always Greyhound Bus Lines, Amtrak, or the Megabus.  I have personally taken the Greyhound from Charleston, West Virginia to Cleveland many times and it is a quick, four hour ride.  That’s plenty of time to sneak in a nap, the new Harry Potter book, or chat up your cute seat mate.  If you choose Amtrak and you are a student, be sure to sign up for the Student Advantage Card and save 15% on any rail fare to any destination.  With that discount you’ve got to get yourself to Cleveland!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moonda murder suspect

by Roberta Ferguson

Wow, I was watching this on the news last night. This is crazy. This lady was married to a wealthy doctor, but had an affair with a guy she met in rehab.

This all happened in 2005, but we are hearing about it now because she is in court over the conspiracy now.

Her lover, Damian Bradford said that she promised him half of the millions she’d receive as a result of his death. Bradford also admitted to shooting Dr. Gulam Moonda in the head.

What ever happened to divorce? If you’re unhappy, just leave. No need to go shooting people in the head for their money.

5 Reasons I love blogging

by Roberta Ferguson

I was just tagged by Scott to write five reasons why I love blogging.

For your viewing pleasure, here is the breakdown of why I love to blog:

Reason #1: I get exposure. I love to be read. People out there get to see that Byline and they get to know my name.

Reason #2: I have ADD, so I like to read a ton of articles about blogging and read other people’s journey into blogging.

Reason #3: It’s fun and easy to do. I could blog for days about music, blogging basics, or just any random stuff. I like to be the source of information, not just someone saying “me, too”.

Reason #4: The community. I read up on all things related to the topics that I blog about and try to generate a community atmosphere within the subject matter. I comment on others’ blogs and they hop on over and do the same for me. If I find a topic of interest, then I’ll be a top commentator for their blog in no time.

Reason #5: I have personality! Who knew?!?? I put a little bit of myself into each post and hopefully that shows. I have a good sense of humor and have my own take on stuff.

So there you have it! I’m off to tag Joel at Musician’s Notebook, AmyD at the Grey’s Anatomy site, Sheryl at BlogNewsWatch, Ryan at the Miami, FL site, and Jes at BritneySpearsWatch.
